AEDE faculty and staff are committed to addressing applied problems of relevance to society through innovative research-based extension and outreach.

Faculty members deliver highly effective research to Ohio citizens and contribute to national public policy debates. They are active collaborators with other Ohio State units in extension and outreach work.

Some examples of AEDE’s extension programming include the yearly Agricultural Policy and Outlook Conference Series. This series feature a number of meetings where faculty update Ohio communities on policy changes, key issues, and market behavior with respect to farm, food, energy resources, and the environment. The department also offers knowledge to the agriculture community through its Farm Management Programs.

Programs focused on the environment, international development and regional studies also offer key programming targeted at communities at the local, state, regional and national levels. Examples include, the Andersons Program in International Trade, the C. William Swank Program in Rural-Urban Policy, and the Environmental Policy Initiative, and the Farm Income Enhancement Program, all administered by AEDE faculty.
